About the Counselor

Seth Scott grew up in northeast New Jersey in a Christian home, involved in ministry from an early age, following the examples of his parents in service. He attended Emmaus Bible College in Dubuque, Iowa, receiving a Bachelor's in Biblical Studies and Intercultural Studies, recognizing a need for additional training in counseling and completing his Master of Arts in Community Counseling from Regent University in Virginia Beach.
Following marriage and two children, Seth completed his clinical training and licensure with experience in community mental health in the Boston/Southern Maine area, specializing in crisis stabilization with children and families and working with couples in distress. Seth moved to Dubuque in 2012 to begin teaching counseling psychology at Emmaus Bible College and taught there while completing his PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Walden University in 2018. In July 2019, Seth accepted an associate professor position in the Clinical Counseling department at Columbia International University in Columbia, SC, moving to this area and starting this clinical practice.

Seth uses a relational style in his counseling, emphasizing care and support for the whole person in their social, emotional, psychological, social, spiritual, and biological functioning as beings made in the image of God. Seth utilizes Cognitive Behavioral techniques, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral techniques tied to an underlying philosophy of systemic care and encouragement.
